About Mr. Roberts:
Tom Roberts was a founding figure in the history of Hendrick Home for Children and in the up-and-coming world of residential childcare in the 1940’s. The news article at his death stated, Tom Roberts – Father to 421 children. The one lasting memory he left, as was reported and confirmed by resident after resident in his care, was that love ruled over all.
He led Hendrick Home for thirty-four years (1939 to 1973). He was also a leader in the community, serving as a church deacon, and Trustee for Hardin Simmons University and Hendrick Medical Center. His greatest recognition; however, was that those who knew him regarded him as a giant in the Texas Childcare community. His good works in professional childcare follow him still today… in the lives of the many people he influenced.
This award provides recognition to an individual for their exemplary service in supportive or auxiliary areas such as finance, recreation, educational services, therapy, operations or administrative support.
